Bird & Blend – Birthday Cake
It was my birthday last Friday! Clearly, there is something about being forty-lots that keeps you busier than being forty-not-quite-so-lots because I have only just gotten around to posting about it.
I had a cracking birthday. And not just because of the astonishing number of tea-related gifts that I was given.
Of course, I celebrated the occasion with tea. Specifically with Bird & Blend Birthday Cake tea. Because if someone goes to the trouble of blending a specifically birthday-related tea it seems rude not to give it a go.
Bird & Blend’s Birthday Cake tea is a rooibos-based blend. Rooibos does enthusiastically lend itself to cake-inspired blends. It really is very cakey. Here, it’s jostling along nicely with vanilla and almonds and the whole experience is reminiscent of spooning sponge cake batter directly from the mixing bowl into your mouth.
Has anyone ever tried putting rooibos into an actual cake, I wonder? Would you end up with a cake that tastes even cakier?
There are some sprinkles in here as well. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about sprinkles in tea blends to be honest. It seems a bit of a waste to include decorative flourishes when they are just going to dissolve the moment I add hot water. I only realised the other day that Bird & Blend’s Hazelnut Rocher has gold sprinkles in it. I’ve been drinking it for ages but the inclusion of sprinkles had completely passed me by.
Not that I am complaining about the sprinkles, you understand. They might be a pointless, whimsical frippery in an otherwise robust and well-considered brew, but, hey, if you can’t enjoy some pointless, whimsical frippery on your birthday, then when can you?
Happy Birthday Friend! 🎂☕️🎉
Thank you!
This sounds interesting!
