The word that comes to mind here is sweet. And I don’t mean that in a young person ‘Hey dude, that’s a sweet ride’ type of way. I mean that Bird & Blend’s Honeycomb Cookie Doh tea is so sugary-tasting as to render it undrinkable.
This tea contains rooibos, cocoa nibs, black tea, puffed quinoa, oat flowering tops and natural flavourings. It also contains stevia and apparently, plenty of it.
Yes, I get that this is a cookie-flavoured tea, and that actual real life cookies do, as a rule, contain a lot of sweet stuff. But Bird & Blend, have a long and noble tradition of making teas based on foodstuffs which would be on the banned list of any diet plan.
I gave Carrot Cake and Cream Egg teas, four and five stars respectively. Neither of those teas tasted like half a jar sweetener had been emptied into my mug. It’s a shame because there’s probably a good tea here underneath it all. Cocoa nibs are always a winner. Plus there’s the inclusion of intriguing oat flowery things and wacky quinoa doing whatever it is that quinoa is expected to do in this situation. But sadly I am going to have to give this brew a one star rating, the mark of ignominy reserved for teas so unpleasant that I couldn’t even finish the first mugful.
I would advise you to steer clear of this one, but don’t let it put you off other Bird & Blend bakery-inspired offerings. I won’t. If Bird & Blend, bring out a new custard cream, jam roly poly, or almond croissant flavoured tea (and let’s face it, they probably will), I will be first in line to try it out.
Today’s featured book (because as you know I always like to include a book in my tea photos) is Beekeeping by Joanna Ryde.
