I don’t usually talk about this here, but hey, I’m in a celebratory mood and I want to shout it from the rooftops. Ladies and gentlemen, I am four years sober today! I am loving my new sober life, which is handy because my previous non-sober life wasn’t working out at all well for me.
So how best to celebrate this milestone? Well, I figured I’d have some Bird & Blend Mojitea. Is it appropriate to mark one’s four year AA birthday with an alcoholic cocktail-inspired drink? Well, given that it’s my recovery and it struck me as a fitting thing to do, I decided it was.
Bird & Blend Mojitea contains Chinese green tea, peppermint, lime and lemongrass and it’s really rather lovely. It’s weird. Only a few weeks ago, I was coming to the conclusion that I don’t like mint leaves in tea, but now I’ve had two mint based teas in the last couple of days and I have enjoyed both of them. So I clearly don’t know what I’m talking about.
Or to put it in blogging language: “I am on a journey of discovery and learning new things all the time”. And what I’ve discovered today is that peppermint paired with citrus and green tea makes for a very satisfying and reviving drink. It doesn’t actually taste anything like a Mojito but, under the circumstances, that’s probably a good thing.
Cheers! Here’s to me enjoying another four years of sobriety after this! In fact, here’s to me enjoying a lifetime of it. One day at a time.
