Candy Cane is all right actually. It’s fine. I didn’t dislike it but as you can tell I’m not all that enthused by it either. The combination of Sri Lankan black tea, spearmint, lime leaves, pink and red cornflowers, stevia and natural flavourings all work together in an amiable sort of manner.
I didn’t realise when I was drinking it, that it’s a spearmint flavoured tea rather than a peppermint one. I often find peppermint gives tea a sort of cabbagey compost heap vibe, which I definitely didn’t get from this tea. It tasted more of polo mints than cabbages. Maybe I like spearmint better.
I think this tea would have worked better if it had had cocoa in it. In fact, I tried my second Candy Cane tea bag with some cocoa nibs and can confirm that it was nicer.
But, to be fair, Bird & Blend probably have a chocolatey minty tea in their range already. I’m not trying to tell the tea-blending scientists in Brighton how to do their job.
Today’s featured book continues to be, of course, The Night Before Christmas by Clement C Moore.
