* Yes, I did consider ‘Trick or Tea-t’ as a title for a moment, but decided not to go with that for some reason.
Bird & Blend – Spiced Pumpkin Pie
It’s Halloweeeeeen everybody! Happy Halloween! Maybe not ‘happy’. ‘Happy Halloween’ always sounds like an oxymoron. Horrific, horrendous and horrible Halloween, everybody!
I’m celebrating it with Spiced Pumpkin Pie tea from Bird & Blend. I always get excited about the idea of pumpkin spice anything presumably due to the promotion of pumpkin spice by our American cousins. It’s just so jolly Autumnal!
What I forget, every time, is that I don’t actually like pumpkin. I made pumpkin pie so many times for my Halloween party feasts before I finally accepted the pumpkin pie is edible despite – not because of – the pumpkin in it. It would actually be a lot tastier if one jettisoned the squashy vegetable matter and just made a spiced egg custard tart instead.
My pumpkin aversion shouldn’t necessarily be a problem with Bird & Blend’s Spiced Pumpkin Pie tea, given that it doesn’t have any pumpkins in it. However, it still tastes pretty pumpkin-y. Also it has carrots masquerading as pumpkin pieces in it.
I think, maybe, I don’t want vegetables in my tea blends. (And I don’t want any of your pedantic nonsense about how pumpkin is “technically a fruit” and carrot is “technically a badger”. We’re speaking culinarily here.)
Everything else about this tea is spot on. There’s black tea, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, vanilla, and a tiny wee bit of sweetness by way of the adorable Jack O’ Lantern-shaped sprinkles. But I keep getting distracted by the thought of slimy spongy watery pumpkin innards and it’s taking the shine off a bit.
What I really want, I’ve realised, is Pumpkin Spice without the pumpkin. Seasonal Pumpkin-less Spice treats. Can we make that a thing?
