The packaging for Tregothnan’s Lavender Tea describes this tea as “subtle and delicate”.
‘Subtle’ is not a word I would use. It’s about as subtle as diving headfirst into a field of lavender bushes and inhaling deeply for twenty minutes. Which is brilliant news, as far as I’m concerned. I know a lot of people are a bit wary of flower teas but personally I can’t get enough of tea that smells like a Yardley Soap gift set. I wonder if anyone does a Lily-of-the-Valley tea? (Edit: I have checked, and Lily-of-the-Valley is actually poisonous so I’m guessing not.)
Whatever side of the lavender fence you’re sitting on, your reaction to drinking Tregothnan Lavender tea is going to be less “Mm, subtle underlying notes of Lavandula Augustifolia”, and more. “WHOA! LAVENDER! ALL THE LAVENDER!”
There’s tea in here as well, obviously. Tregothnan’s Cornish and Assam blend can hold its own against a perfume-y onslaught. There’s sweetness in the lavender which combines with the strong malty tea leaves to make a tea that’s a lot of fun to drink.
Tregothnan Lavender Tea is a one-cup reviving/soothing scale contradiction. The combination of soothing, sleep-inducing lavender and punchy, wake-me-up tea leaves resulted in a brew which both relaxed me and also made me really, really excited about how relaxed I was.
