Chai Wallah Margate’s Lychee Grey delivers exactly what it promises. There’s bergamot, there’s lychee and there’s tea, and they’re all having a whale of a time together.
I’ve had tea with lychee but I’ve never had a bergamot/lychee blend. And believe me, these flavours really bring out the best in one another. It’s a match made in heaven. Or rather, a match made in Margate, which is more or less the same thing.
I’ve reviewed a couple of Chai Wallah Margate’s teas before so, no doubt, I’ve already waxed lyrical about their packaging, but I think it bears repeating. I am in love with their retro packing crate designs that make it look like your tea packet has just been unloaded at the docks after its long journey from India.

In fact, in the case of Lychee Grey, there are teas from Sri Lanka, India and China in the mix, so it really is a multicultural affair.
This tea is sturdy enough to withstand a dash of milk and it really does slip down beautifully. It was a pleasure to drink. My only problem with this tea is that it might ruin regular Earl Grey for me. In the not-too-far future, I imagine I’m going to be drinking a cup of perfectly nice normal Earl Grey and thinking “Hmm, I don’t know. It’s not really lychee-y enough is it?”
Today’s featured book is Jasper Fforde’s Shades of Grey. (Which has nothing at all to do with those other Shades of Grey books.)
