I have never tasted pear and jasmine paired up with one another before and, I’m happy to say, it works really really well. Bird & Blend have hit on something here. This might be one of those perfect double acts where two things combine together to make something greater than the individual components. Like chocolate and mint or cheese and onion or Paul Chuckle and Barry Chuckle.
Fragrant jasmine, sweet yet earthy pear pieces, and Chinese sencha tea provide a satisfying green brew. I subscribe to Bird & Blend’s Tea Lovers Club which means I get three different teas to try each month. This tea was one of April’s selection along with yesterday’s One in a Melon and a honeycomb cookie blend, which I will review tomorrow.
It seems an odd decision to include both One in a Melon and Jasmine Poached Pears in the same bundle, as they are quite similar to one another. Both have a base of Chinese Sencha green tea, (which seems to be a much milder, more floral version of its Japanese counterpart). Of the two, I prefer this one. Teamongers have been adding jasmine flowers to their blends for hundreds of years. And it’s clear why it’s a classic. The pear pieces and flavourings add a nice twist and produce a green tea that is both traditional and surprisingly original.
