Offblak’s Nicely Spicy is a fruity rooibos-based blend. It’s more fruity than rooibos-y which is a bit of a pity.
Rooibos is usually quite an assertive, strident flavour but it struggles to make its voice heard here. The cinnamon is similarly overwhelmed despite the ingredients list’s assertion that this blend is 10% cinnamon.
So what do we have left? Well, we have fruit and plenty of it. There’s apple and cranberry pieces for a start and then there are “flavourings”. I assume that the flavouring used here is called something like “massive vat of incredibly fruity jam”.
It’s quite nice though. I tried it both with milk and without and I think it works better milkless. (I’m usually a big advocate of milk in rooibos.)
It seems the absence of milk gives the rooibos and cinnamon more of a fighting chance. They impart a nice custardy flavour to the proceedings, which gives the brew a sort of jam roly poly pudding vibe.
The presence of rooibos stops this tea tipping over into full fruity tisane territory, but it comes perilously close enough for me not to want to grant this Cinnamon & Cranberry Flavour Infusion a permanent place on my tea shelf.
