Tea-Adora – Posh Earl Grey
I do realise that there are a disproportionate number of Earls Grey amongst my tea reviews. But there is a very good reason for that. Which is that I really like Earl Grey.
So as a fan of the original Earl Grey (the OG EG, if you will), I am duty-bound to check out a tea called Posh Earl Grey when it comes to my attention.
Taste-wise, Tea-Adora’s Posh Earl Grey doesn’t disappoint. This is a marvellous concoction full of Sri Lankan black tea, orange pieces, rose petals and lime leaves. The flavours all whoosh about together, showing off their talents but not overshadowing the tea to the extent that it risks resembling a scented candle.
(Mind you as a big fan of lavender tea blends which literally taste how Yardley soap smells, I probably wouldn’t mark a tea down for resembling a Yankee Candle.)
But – and this is a big but – I’m not sure that Posh Earl Grey is actually an Earl Grey tea at all. The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that there was one crucial ingredient missing from the list. Where’s the bally bergamot, Tea-Adora?
Sure, there are orange pieces here, but unless they are specifically Citrus bergamia then – lovely as this tea is – I don’t think it qualifies as an Earl Grey.
It’s a smashing tea, don’t get me wrong, and one that I would happily buy again. I just think if you are filing your tea using whatever the tea equivalent of the Dewey decimal system is – it needs to be shelved in the fruity-flowery-black-tea section rather than under Earl Grey.
I know it’s harsh but there must be rules about these things. Otherwise, it’s just anarchy.
Today’s featured book is Hard Times by Charles Dickens. This was selected because The 2nd Earl Grey and Charles Dickens were contemporaries but it turned out to be especially apt because I do think I was rather hard on Tea-Adora.
