Yawn’s slightly dodgy-sounding ‘Santa’s Milk and Cookies’

Yawn Advent Calendar Day 3 – Santa’s Milk and Cookies

Today’s advent tea from Yawn Brew is Santa’s Milk and Cookies, and look, I’m going to say it, “Santa’s milk” sounds distinctly NSFW. It can’t be just me. Sounding like a festive version of a public schoolboy’s ‘biscuit game’, is the only strike against this tea, though. It is absolutely delightful.

It has all manner of things in it – safflowers, red plum petals, sumac berries – that I couldn’t pick out of a taste-testing line-up, but apparently, when you bung them all together with some black tea, cornflowers and natural flavourings you get something delicious.

I’m not sure what kind of cookie this is meant to be emulating. It has a bit of fruity vibe to it so I’m guessing Jammie Dodgers. That doesn’t fit with the whole American ‘milk and cookies for Santa’ vibe, though.

Yawn Santa's Milk and Cookies tea

Do British children not leave out sherry and mince pies any more? This seems the right and proper way of it. Maybe plying Father Christmas with alcohol is seen as a bit reprehensible these days. I don’t think it counts as drunk driving, as the sentient reindeer are the designated drivers, but it’s still boozing at work. Weird enough that a fat, beardy bloke is breaking into your kids’ bedrooms. Maybe people prefer it if he isn’t half-cut as well.

You could always leave this tea out for him, but it’d probably be cold by the time he got there. If I had to deliver presents to 500 million homes in a single night, I think I’d like it if people left out a travel kettle with a selection of teabags and biscuits like in a Premier Inn. So maybe I’m not anti-biscuits-at-Christmas after all.
