Yawn Advent Calendar Day 9 – Yorkshire Breakfast
Today’s Yawn Advent calendar tea is Yorkshire Breakfast, a no-nonsense cuppa which, unlike most of its predecessors, doesn’t have any aspirations to be some kind of Christmas confectionery.
It almost feels like a rebuke, after all my complaints about overly Americanised flavours and fruit tisanes. Like it’s saying, “If you’re going to be that bloody picky about it, you can just have a cup of normal tea! Happy now?”
Well, yes, that’s fine thank you, Advent Calendar. No need to be so judgy. I’ve actually liked most of Yawn’s teas so far, anyway. So ner.
Although this tea calls itself Yorkshire Breakfast, it’s actually the self-same Ya Brews Mashin blend that I reviewed a few weeks ago. It’s just going under a different moniker for the festive season, apparently. It was a perfectly drinkable Indian, Kenyan and Chinese black tea blend back then and remains so here. It’s a little strong for my tastes, which I expect is down to me being a non-Yorkshire person. Yawn do several other breakfast black teas, including English, Irish, and Scottish Breakfasts. I’m not sure if any of them appear in the advent tea line-up, but I’ll be happy to give them a whirl if they do.
The current Advent tea ranking is below. This Yorkshire Breakfast, being a perfectly fine, drinkable 3-star effort, works as a handy marker. Everything above it is great, and everything below was problematic. There’s definitely been more hits than misses so far.
