Bird & Blend – Tea & Toast
The tea in Bird & Blend’s Advent Calendar for the 14th of December was Tea & Toast. This blend of Assam and Kenyan black teas, hibiscus, raspberry, apple, rosehip, cornflowers and natural flavouring was a new one for me and it’s really rather nice.
This tea is described by B&B as “English Breakfast with raspberry jam” and it invites inevitable comparisons with Yorkshire Tea’s Toast & Jam Brew. I don’t have any Toast & Jam on hand, so I can’t do a scientific-type side-by-side comparison. But I can say pretty confidently that Bird & Blend’s tea is the better one for two reasons: firstly, it tastes nicer, and secondly, unlike Yorkshire Tea, B&B are upfront about what flavour jam they use.
The raspberry to black tea ratio of this blend is spot on. I don’t know why Bird & Blend make it a point of honour to include apple, rosehip and hibiscus in what seems like every single blend they produce but, in this instance, it works pretty well.
All in all, a top-notch tea. It only ranks 8th on the list, but that’s just down to the ridiculously high standard of the preceding seven teas. I’m sure Tea & Toast will find its way onto my shopping list at some point in 2023.
