SaChasi – Chewy Toffee Popcorn

Happy New Year, tea friends! I have decided to start 2023 on the right foot with some Chewy Toffee Popcorn tea from Sa Chasi. I fully expected to enjoy this tea and it did not disappoint. Mind you, SaChasi does have form for producing absolutely amazing teas that taste like high-calorie sugary snacks.

Not surprisingly, this tea contains genmaicha, the green tea and toasted rice blend that is sometimes referred to as “popcorn tea”. But, blimey, there’s a lot of other stuff in the mix as well. The full ingredients list boasts chopped dates, carob powder, chicory, cacao husks, desiccated coconut, orange pekoe, blackberry leaves, raw stevia, green tea matcha, sunflower petals and natural flavouring. How on earth does one even come up with such a recipe? Did Ms SaChasi – in a particularly exuberant mood one evening – just chuck a bunch of completely random stuff into her tea-blending cauldron to see what would happen?

If so, then I heartily approve of her methods. Chewy Toffee Popcorn tea is amazing. It is sweet without being overwhelmingly so and has a luscious creamy buttery vibe that makes the whole experience terribly more-ish. This was an excellent way to begin a brand-new year of tea tasting.

The one reservation I have about Chewy Toffee Popcorn is the name. Call me old-fashioned, but I don’t find the idea of a chewy tea very appealing. For anyone else worried about this side of things, I am happy to report that Chewy Toffee Popcorn tea can be sipped and/or slurped in the usual beverage-drinking manner and no actual mastication is required.

Today’s featured book is The Procrastination Equation by Dr Piers Steel. Because it’s the New Year and, right now, I am full of good intentions.)
