Curious Tea – Darjeeling Golpaldhara Autumn Dew

For some reason, I have an unshakable belief that I can take a quick nap after lunch and wake up feeling refreshed and recharged and ready to put in a productive afternoon’s work. This is despite the fact that time and again I’ll put my head down for a postprandial snooze, and re-emerge in the early evening, groggy, confused and really very pissed off with myself.

This is what I did today. I’m a freelance writer, which means that all-day naps are (a) possible and (b) an astonishingly bad idea.

I figured I may as well claw back some kind of productivity for the day and review some tea. When I started this tea-fancying endeavour, I told myself that I wasn’t going to start posts apologising for not posting in ages, because that shit gets old fast.

But you know, I do realise that tea posts have been ridiculously sparse of late. It is not – I assure you -because I’ve lost interest in drinking cups of fancy tea. So, what am I doing myself instead? Sometimes I’m working. Sometimes I’m procrastinating. And, as I’ve just explained, some of the time I’m fast asleep taking naps I can’t possibly need. (I sleep fine at night. It’s not like I need to catch up. I just really, really like sleeping.)

So, what tea would be best for this evening’s review? I decided it needed to be black. I need waking up. I can’t be doing with the gentle machinations of a green or white tea. And it needed to be good.

Curious Tea’s Darjeeling Golpaldhara Autumn Dew fits the bill perfectly. It even has “autumn” in its name so it’s seasonally appropriate. It’s dark, robust and smooth.

There is a world of difference between a spring flush and an autumn flush. This tea was picked in October 2020 in the Mirik Valley in Darjeeling. Autumn teas don’t have the sprightly, in-your-face zinginess of spring growth, but they make up for it with a rich, fragrant maturity.

The autumn harvest is generally much smaller than that of the spring. There are few new shoots on the tea plants, making tea gathered at this time of year something of a speciality.

Golpaldhara Autumn Dew is gorgeous. It’s absolutely beautiful. I’m expecting this tea to herald a bout of regular tea posting. I want it to kick me up the bottom in a no-nonsense – yet loving – way. This may be a tall order for a cup of Camellia Sinensis. But if any tea can do it, I reckon Curious Tea’s Darjeeling Golpaldhara Autumn Dew probably can.
