Twinings – Dark Mint

This is a blend of black tea and peppermint and sadly it’s a bit rubbish. The tea’s there. The mint’s there. But they aren’t interacting with one another. They’re just two separate entities which happen to be sharing the same space, like a couple of strangers in a lift.

Twinings Dark Mint Tea

I’m not necessarily averse to a bit of mintiness in my tea. I have in the past enjoyed Bird & Blend’s Peppermint Cream and Offblak’s Just Desserts spearmint and chocolate tea, which is simply divine. Of course, what both these teas have and which Dark Mint lacks is the inclusion of chocolate in the list of ingredients. The lack of chocolate is a problem. Obviously I’m not suggesting that every tea ever ought to have chocolate in it. That would be madness, but I think it should always be given serious consideration when peppermint is involved.

Consider, if you will, the mint Viscount. It is a classy foil-wrapped biscuit and the perfect synergy of biscuit, chocolate and fondanty bit. Now, imagine it without the chocolate. It wouldn’t work out at all. It would be like having a blob of toothpaste on a digestive.

This is basically how I feel about Dark Mint. It is the tea equivalent of a chocolate-less Viscount.

Today’s guest book is Herbal Teas for Health and Healing by Ceres. I’m not sure why I chose that one as this is emphatically not a herbal tea. I was clearly distracted by the presence of peppermint.
